Seven case reports on the prevention of hemorrhage after percutaneous computed tomography-guided core-needle biopsy of the spleen
In this study, we reported seven patients who underwent diagnostic evaluation through core-needle biopsy (CNB) of the spleen. After biopsy, gelatin sponge particles mixed with hemocoagulase were gradually injected using a coaxial introducer needle. One patient received microwave ablation following the CNB. All patients were followed up by computed tomography to rule out bleeding or accidental injuries both immediately after the biopsy and within 24 h. Adequate specimens for pathologic examination...

Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy in newly diagnosed breast cancer survivors treated with taxane: a prospective longitudinal study
ConclusionThe change of CIPN prevalence and severity were significant over time in survivors newly diagnosed with breast cancer. “PENS” approach for breaking bad news—a short and sweet way!
AbstractIndia has a distinct pattern of cancer care delivery, with unique sociocultural milieu and patient characteristics. In the current era of patient-centered and personalized care, there is an unmet need for an abbreviated protocol for breaking bad news to cancer patients suitable for the Indian outpatient setting. We propose a short four-step protocol for breaking bad news effectively and caringly, in the outpatient department of oncology clinics. (Source: Supportive Care in Cancer)

Salivary alpha-1-antitrypsin and macrophage migration inhibitory factor may be potential prognostic biomarkers for oncologic treatment –induced severe oral mucositis
ConclusionsThere is a correlation between the abundance of salivary A1AT and MIF and oncologic treatment –induced OM. The correlation of MIF expression with severe OM appears to be compatible with its physiological pro-inflammatory role. These results open up great possibilities for the use of salivary MIF and A1AT levels as prognostic markers for effective therapeutic interventions, such as photobio modulation therapy, patient-controlled analgesia, or personalized medicaments. Palliative care for cancer patients with severe COVID-19: the challenge of uncertainty
AbstractCases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are escalating rapidly across the globe, with the mortality risk being especially high among those with existing illness and multi-morbidity. The immunosuppressed status of some cancer patients increases their risk of infection compared with the general population, and cancer treatment within 2  weeks of COVID-19 diagnosis was reported as a risk factor for developing severe events. Palliative care workers have an essential role in the response...

AbstractActivation Induced cytidine Deaminase (AID) is an essential enzyme of the adaptive immune system. Its canonical activity is restricted to B lymphocytes, playing an essential role in the diversification of antibodies by enhancing specificity and changing affinity. This is possible through its DNA deaminase function, leading to mutations in DNA. In the last decade, AID has been assigned an additional function: that of a powerful DNA demethylator. Adverse cellular conditions such as chronic...

Is PEGylated G-CSF superior to G-CSF in patients with breast cancer receiving chemotherapy? A systematic review and meta-analysis
Abstract Background PEGylated granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) is a safe alternative to G-CSF to improve chemotherapy-induced neutropenia (CIN). This superiority has resulted in its increased use by physicians; however, the superiority of PEGylated G-CSF for CIN in breast cancer has not been conclusively determined. Objectives ...

Recognition of cognitive complaints for patients with advanced cancer
Abstract Fueled by increasing recognition that cancer-related cognitive impairment impacts quality of life among cancer survivors, we suggest that researchers and clinicians expand their focus to acknowledge the impact of cognitive changes for those with advanced cancer. We outline five reasons that patients with advanced cancer would benefit from comprehensive assessments that include questions about cognitive complaints. Advanced cancer has all the characteristics that would...

A quantitative comparison of arm activity between survivors of breast cancer and healthy controls: use of accelerometry
Abstract Purpose Survivors of breast cancer (BC) on the non-dominant side have more persistent deficits than those with cancer on the dominant limb. What is not known is whether those with BC use their involved upper limbs more, less, or at the same level as women without BC. Accelerometer use offers a quantifiable method to measure activity levels of upper limbs. The purpose of this study was to quantify the activity levels of...

Analgesic injection of botulinum toxin in anal fissures is efficient and can be performed safely in patients actively receiving chemotherapy
Abstract Purpose Injection of botulinum toxin into the internal anal sphincter is a well-documented intervention to reduce anal hypertonia in the treatment of anal fissures. In patients receiving chemotherapy, painful anal conditions are frequent, secondary to change in bowel habits and reduced immunity. However, injection of botulinum toxin is often not offered due to fear of complications. ...
