Commissuroplasty

Commissuroplasty:

Microstomia may arise from injury to the oral commissure or as iatrogenically after reconstruction of the lips. This process leads to inadequate oral competence, dysphagia, and dysarthria. Reconstruction of the oral commissure can be performed using basic commissuroplasty techniques. Implementation of basic methods for commissure reconstruction can be done safely and there are multiple variations to fit specific patient situations. The aim of this article is to describe the basic methods of commissuroplasty including the indications, preoperative considerations, and postoperative care.
