Six cases of perforating pilomatricoma: Anetodermic changes with expression of matrix metalloproteinases
Abstract Perforating pilomatricoma (PP) is a rare clinical variant of pilomatricoma presenting as a crusted or ulcerated nodule. Previous reports have suggested that the tumor cells perforate the epidermis through a process of transepithelial elimination. Here, we report six cases of PP and examine the mechanism of transepithelial elimination in PP. Histologically, the dermis above or around the tumor nest exhibited edema, dilated vascular spaces, sparse collagen bundles and absence of elastic fibers,...

Three cases of recalcitrant cutaneous warts treated with quadrivalent human papillomavirus vaccine: the HPV type may not determine the outcome
Abstract To the best of our knowledge, 11 reports have described the efficacy of the bivalent human papillomavirus vaccine (BHPV) and quadrivalent human papillomavirus vaccine (QHPV) in the treatment of cutaneous warts1–3. Nine reports described the complete regression of cutaneous warts in all patients treated with BHPV or QHPV (total of 16 cases). On the other hand, Abeck and Fölster‐Holst2 reported that 10 of 16 patients were cured, with younger patients having better cure rates.

Clinical significance of BRAF/NRAS concurrent mutations in a clinic‐based metastatic melanoma cohort
Abstract Innovative therapeutic strategies in metastatic melanoma depend on molecular features and the combination of BRAF and MEK inhibitors (BRAFi+MEKi) which has recently shown an improved clinical efficacy in BRAF V600MUT metastatic melanoma patients, is now the standard of care. BRAF and NRAS activating mutations lead to the MAPK pathway deregulation1 and may coexist despite their earlier description as mutually exclusive2. This event is probably related to the existence of several mutually‐exclusive...

The role of bacterial skin infections in atopic dermatitis: expert statement and review from the International Eczema Council Skin Infection Group
Abstract Patients with atopic dermatitis (AD) have an increased risk of bacterial skin infections that cause significant morbidity and, if untreated, may become systemic. Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) colonizes the skin of most AD subjects and is the most common organism to cause infections. Overt bacterial infection is easily recognised by the appearance of weeping lesions, honey‐coloured crusts, and pustules. However, the wide variability in clinical presentation of bacterial infection in...

miR‐145‐5p profibrotic activity in RDEB
Summary Recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (RDEB) is a rare and highly disabling genetic disease. RDEB hallmarks are skin fragility, constant blistering, and defective wound healing leading to inflammation and fibrosis, which means tissue hardening. Fibrosis underlies major RDEB complications, including limb deformities and cancer, and preventing it is a strategy to improve the disease course. Despite the identification of several molecules that are deregulated in RDEB fibrosis, the disease...
