Morphomolekulare Charakterisierung kolorektaler Neoplasien

The range of atlanto‐occipital joint motion in cetaceans reflects their feeding behavior
The range of dorso‐ventral range of the atlanto‐occipital joint motion (ROM) can be used as a powerful tool to reconstruct the feeding behaviors of extinct cetacean taxa. The survey in various extant cetacean specimens revealed that the ROM depends on the prey habitat, and the method cetaceans use to capture prey. The cetaceans that prefer benthic/demersal prey had a relatively large ROM compared with the ones that prefer pelagic prey. The ROM was relatively large in raptorial feeders, followed by...

The history of transesophageal echocardiography: the role of inspiration, innovation, and applications
Abstract Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), which is commonly used for monitoring and diagnostic imaging during cardiovascular surgery, was originally developed by a strong desire to know what was taking place in the heart in the dark ages of cardiac surgery. The author was fortunate to be present in the midst of the development of TEE and have an opportunity to take a close look at the history of this innovation. Furthermore, the author believes that the history of TEE contains...

Esophageal eosinophilia accompanies food allergy to hen egg white protein in young pigs
Abstract Background Esophagitis with eosinophilia, inflammation, and fibrosis represents a chronic condition in humans with food allergies. Objective In this investigation we asked whether esophagitis with an eosinophilic component is observed in young pigs rendered allergic to hen egg white protein (HEWP). Methods Food allergy was induced in young pigs using two protocols. In one protocol, sensitized pigs were challenged by gavage with a single dose of HEWP. Clinical signs were monitored...

Effect of Anesthesia on Microelectrode Recordings during Deep Brain Stimulation Surgery in Tourette Syndrome Patients
Background: Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is an accepted treatment for patients with medication-resistant Tourette syndrome (TS). Sedation is commonly required during electrode implantation to attenuate anxiety, pain, and severe tics. Anesthetic agents potentially impair the quality of microelectrode recordings (MER). Little is known about the effect of these anesthetics on MER in patients with TS. We describe our experience with different sedative regimens on MER and tic severity in patients with...

Paradoxical sleep deprivation induces differential biological response in rat masticatory muscles: inflammation, autophagy and myogenesis
Abstract Background The aim of this study was to evaluate if sleep deprivation (SD) induces inflammation, autophagy and myogenesis in the following masticatory muscles: masseter and temporal. Methods In this study, 18 animals were randomly distributed into three groups: Control group (CTL, n=6), SD for 96 hours (SD96, n=6) and SD for 96 hours and more 96 hours of sleep recovery (SD96+R, n=6). Results In the histopathological analysis, SD 96 was able to induce inflammation in masseter...

The association between oral bacteria, the cough reflex and pneumonia in patients with acute stroke and suspected dysphagia
Abstract Objective To establish how oral bacteria are related to cough sensitivity and pneumonia in a clinical stroke population. Background Stroke patients are at risk of colonisation by respiratory pathogens due, in part, to sudden discontinuation of effective oral hygiene. When combined with reduced cough reflex sensitivity, aspiration of contaminated oropharyngeal contents and can lead to pneumonia. Relationships between oral bacteria, cough sensitivity and pneumonia have not been established....

Abstract Background There is no consensus on whether the range of mandibular advancement for the construction of mandibular advancement devices in obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) patients should be measured from a starting position of maximum voluntary retrusion or habitual bite position. Objective The purposes of this study were to investigate the differences in mandibular advancement registrations starting from maximum voluntary retrusion or from habitual bite position and to evaluate...
