Copper‐Catalyzed Triboration of Terminal Alkynes Using B2pin2: Efficient Synthesis of 1,1,2‐Triborylalkenes
We report here the catalytic triboration of terminal alkynes with B2pin2 (bis(pinacolato)diboron) using readily available Cu(OAc)2 and P n Bu3. Various 1,1,2‐tris(boryl)alkenes, a class of compounds which have been demonstrated to be potential Matrix Metallo‐Proteinase (MMP‐2) inhibitors, are obtained directly in moderate to good yields. The process features mild reaction conditions, broad substrate scope, and good functional group tolerance were observed. This Cu‐catalyzed reaction can be conducted...

Regio‐ and Enantioselective Synthesis of Sulfone‐Bearing Quaternary Carbon Stereocenters via Pd‐Catalyzed Allylic Substitution
Chiral sulfones are of great importance in medicinal chemistry and chemical synthesis. Efficient methods for preparing enantiomerically enriched sulfone‐containing molecules can therefore be of significant value; such methods, however, are uncommon. Herein we report the first general palladium‐catalyzed sulfonylation of vinyl cyclic carbonates with sodium sulfinates. A series of enantiomerically enriched tertiary allylic sulfones were synthesized in good yields with excellent enantiomeric ratios....

A Hydrogen‐Bonded Organic Framework with Type IV NH3 Adsorption
An S‐shaped gas isotherm pattern displays high working capacity in pressure‐swing adsorption cycle, as established in CO2, CH4, acetylene, and CO, for instance. However, to the best of our knowledge, this type of adsorption behavior has not been revealed for NH3 gas. Herein, we design and characterize a hydrogen‐bonded organic framework (HOF) that can adsorb NH3 uniquely in an S‐shape (type IV) fashion. While conventional porous materials mostly with type I NH3 adsorption behavior require relatively...

All‐Inorganic Perovskite Phase Rubidium Lead Bromide Nanolaser
Rubidium lead halides (RbPbX₃), one important class of all‐inorganic metal halide perovskite next to CsPbX₃, are attracting increasing attention for photovoltaic applications. However, limited by its lower Goldschmidt tolerance factor t ~ 0.78, all‐inorganic perovskite rubidium lead bromide (RbPbBr₃) has never been reported. In this work, we theoretically analyzed the crystal structure, X‐ray diffraction (XRD) pattern, and band structure of perovskite phase RbPbBr₃. The results revealed that perovskite...

Entropically Favoured Assembly of Pyrazine Based Helical Fibers to Superstructures: Achiral/ Chiral Guest Induced Chirality Transformation
Development of synthetic helical structures undergoing stimuli responsive chirality transformation is important to understand the role of chirality in natural systems. However, controlling the supramolecular chirality in entropically driven assemblies in aqueous media is challenging. To develop stimuli responsive assemblies, we designed and synthesized pyrazine derivative having L‐alanine groups as chiral building block which undergoes self‐assembly in aqueous media to generate helical fibers and...

PolyMOF nanoparticles: dual roles of a multivalent polyMOF ligand in size control and surface functionalization
Metal‐organic framework nanoparticles (MOF NPs) have emerged as an important class of materials that display significantly enhanced performance in many applications compared to bulk MOF materials; their synthesis, however, commonly involves a tedious sequence that controls particle size and surface properties in separate steps. Herein, we report a simple strategy to access functional MOF NPs in one pot, using a polyMOF ligand that possesses a polymer block for surface functionalization and a coordination...

Deciphering African late middle Pleistocene hominin diversity and the origin of our species
Nature Communications, Published online: 10 September 2019; doi:10.1038/s41467-019-11213-wLate Middle Pleistocene (LMP) hominin fossils are scarce, limiting reconstruction of human evolution during this key period. Here, the authors use phylogenetic modelling to predict the modern human last common ancestor’s morphology and inform hypotheses of human origins by comparison to LMP fossils.

Unexpected species diversity in electric eels with a description of the strongest living bioelectricity generator
Nature Communications, Published online: 10 September 2019; doi:10.1038/s41467-019-11690-zA single species of electric eel, Electrophorus electricus, has been described. Here, de Santana et al. show that there are three major lineages of Electrophorus distributed across Greater Amazonia and describe two new species, one with a much stronger electric discharge than was previously known.

A GABAergic and peptidergic sleep neuron as a locomotion stop neuron with compartmentalized Ca2+ dynamics
Nature Communications, Published online: 10 September 2019; doi:10.1038/s41467-019-12098-5The GABAergic and peptidergic neuron RIS mediates sleep in Caenorhabditis elegans. The authors demonstrated here that RIS also functions as a locomotion stop neuron. Its optogenetic stimulation caused acute and persistent inhibition of locomotion, and brief intrinsic RIS activity preceded slowing.

Different brain networks mediate the effects of social and conditioned expectations on pain
Nature Communications, Published online: 10 September 2019; doi:10.1038/s41467-019-11934-yOur experience of pain can be affected by our expectations about how much pain we will feel. Here, the authors show that both social information-driven expectations, and those based on personal experience, are both able to modulate pain, but by different neural pathways.

Nature Communications, Published online: 10 September 2019; doi:10.1038/s41467-019-11900-8Holliday junctions (HJs) are four-way DNA structures that occur in DNA repair by homologous recombination which are removed by nucleases such as RuvC. Here the authors provide structural and biochemical details on the steps required for the completion of the process.

Nature Communications, Published online: 10 September 2019; doi:10.1038/s41467-019-11989-xIn flowering plants, the CONSTANS (CO) and Nuclear Factor Y (NF-Y) transcription factors connect light perception to floral induction. Here Tokutsu et al. show that in the green alga Chlamydomonas, CO and NF-Y form an analogous complex that can prevent photodamage in response to excess light.

Nature Communications, Published online: 10 September 2019; doi:10.1038/s41467-019-12132-6Thick film is preferred for sufficient light absorption and tolerant processing but it easily spoils the charge transport in the all-polymer solar cells. Here Fan et al. reconcile by tuning the film morphology and deliver high efficiency of 10% in 1 cm2 area devices.

Publication date: November 2019Source: Biomedicine & Pharmacotherapy, Volume 119Author(s): Zewen Song, Zhaomei Yu, Limin Chen, Zhijiao Zhou, Qiong Zou, Yang LiuAbstractMicro-RNAs regulate multiple biological behaviors of cancers, making them potential targets of new cancer therapies. MiR-1181 has been demonstrated to perform oncogenic or tumor-suppressing function in a tissue-dependent way, but its role in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) was unclear. Here, we showed that miR-1181 was significantly...
