Somatostatin and chemokine CXCR4 receptor expression in pancreatic adenocarcinoma relative to pancreatic neuroendocrine tumours
Abstract Purpose Pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PAC) represents one of the most fatal types of cancer with an exceptionally poor prognosis, underscoring the need for improved diagnostic and treatment approaches. An over-expression of somatostatin receptors (SST) as well as of the chemokine receptor CXCR4 has been shown for many tumour entities. Respective expression data for PAC, however, are scarce and contradictory. ...

Change in neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio during immunotherapy treatment is a non-linear predictor of patient outcomes in advanced cancers
Abstract Background The neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is known to be prognostic for patients with advanced cancers treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI), but has generally been evaluated as a single threshold value at baseline. We evaluated NLR at baseline and within first month during treatment in patients who received ICI for advanced cancer to evaluate the prognostic value of baseline and of changes from baseline...

From maternal tending to adolescent befriending: The adolescent transition of social support
Open maternal communication is positively associated with female friendship. Female friendship and open paternal communication is negatively associated with depressive symptoms, which increase with age. Abstract Attachment theory holds that parental relationships have lifelong effects on offspring social lives. The tend‐and‐befriend hypothesis posits that female friendships among humans evolved as part of a primate‐wide coping mechanism to mediate stress by relying on social support. Here we...

A case of right internal carotid agenesis with associated transcavernous anastomosis revealed by transient ischemic attack
Abstract Agenesis of the internal carotid artery (ICA) is a rare congenital vascular disorder of the cerebral circulation. CT scan of the skull base disclosing complete absence of the bony carotid canal helps to differentiate an agenesis from aplasia or hypoplasia. Although most of the patients remain asymptomatic (thanks to the sufficient collateral circulation provided by the circle of Willis) cerebral infarcts, transient ischemic attacks or intracranial aneurysms have been rarely...

Intermittent Claudication in Physiotherapists’ Practice
Intermittent claudication is a symptom of atherosclerosis of the lower limbs (peripheral arterial disease (PAD)) and is characterized by pain and cramps of lower limb muscles during exercise. Claudication leads to a reduction in physical activity of patients. PAD is a systemic disease. Atherosclerotic lesions located in the arteries of the lower limbs not only pose the risk of the ischemic limb loss, but above all, they are an important prognostic factor. Patients with claudication are at significant...

SMARCA4-deficient Uterine Sarcoma and Undifferentiated Endometrial Carcinoma are Distinct Clinicopathologic Entities
Undifferentiated and dedifferentiated endometrial carcinomas (UDEC) are aggressive uterine tumors which may show loss of expression of SMARCA4 (BRG1) or SMARCB1 (INI-1). The recently described SMARCA4-deficient undifferentiated uterine sarcoma (SDUS) has a morphology which overlaps with UDEC. In this study, we compared clinical, morphologic, immunohistochemical, and molecular characteristics to identify features which differentiate SDUS from UDEC. Cases of SDUS (n=12) were compared with cases of...

Mucin Pools Following Neoadjuvant Chemoradiotherapy For Rectal Cancer: A Marker of Response or Epiphenomenon?
Neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (CRT) is the standard of care for locally advanced rectal cancer. Morphologic changes such as fibrosis, inflammatory infiltrates, and the formation of extracellular mucin pools can be identified in the resection specimen after neoadjuvant CRT. The association of mucin pool formation with clinicopathologic variables and outcomes is unclear. The aim of this study was to meta-analyze all available evidence with regard to mucin pool formation and clinicopathologic outcomes...

Pericytoma With t(7;12) and ACTB-GLI1 Fusion: Reevaluation of an Unusual Entity and its Relationship to the Spectrum of: GLI1: Fusion–Related Neoplasms
The entity “pericytoma with t(7;12)” was described as a rare, distinct perivascular myoid neoplasm provisionally classified within the family of myopericytic tumors that demonstrates t(7;12)(p22;q13) translocation with resultant ACTB-GLI1 fusion and biologically was felt to behave in an indolent fashion. However, a recent study showed that tumors with this and similar translocations may have variable morphology and immunohistochemical phenotype with inconsistent myopericytic characteristics and a...
