Swimmer’s Head Detection Based on a Contrario and Scaled Composite JTC Approaches
In order to accompany the swimming coaches in evaluating high-level swimmers, we developed a prototype for instantaneous speed estimation. To achieve this, we proposed and validated, in a previous work, a swimmer tracking system based on data fusion. However, the initialization phase is done manually, and our aim, in this paper, is to automate this process. First, we propose a region of interest localization module that allows the detection of the first appearance of the swimmer in the lane as well...

Synchronizability of Multilayer Star and Star-Ring Networks
Synchronization of multilayer complex networks is one of the important frontier issues in network science. In this paper, we strictly derived the analytic expressions of the eigenvalue spectrum of multilayer star and star-ring networks and analyzed the synchronizability of these two networks by using the master stability function (MSF) theory. In particular, we investigated the synchronizability of the networks under different interlayer coupling strength, and the relationship between the synchronizability...

Magnetic Resonance Image Denoising Algorithm Based on Cartoon, Texture, and Residual Parts
Magnetic resonance (MR) images are often contaminated by Gaussian noise, an electronic noise caused by the random thermal motion of electronic components, which reduces the quality and reliability of the images. This paper puts forward a hybrid denoising algorithm for MR images based on two sparsely represented morphological components and one residual part. To begin with, decompose a noisy MR image into the cartoon, texture, and residual parts by MCA, and then each part is denoised by using Wiener...

The Effect of Single Harmonic Tuning on Vocal Loudness
The study addresses the benefit of tuning single harmonics with vocal tract resonances to increase vocal loudness. The loudness of theoretically constructed vocal sounds with variable levels of sound energy in the first, second, and third harmonics is computed on the basis of ISO standard 226:2003. In comparison to increased loudness with changes in overall spectral slope, it is shown that single harmonic tuning requires a greater range of SPL to produce a similar range of loudness. For example,...

Reciprocal expression of TFF‐1 (trefoil factor‐1) and TTF‐1 (thyroid transcription factor‐1) in lung adenocarcinomas
Abstract Molecular targeted therapies against EGFR and ALK have improved the quality of life of lung adenocarcinoma patients. However, targetable driver mutations are mainly found in TTF‐1/NKX2‐1‐positive terminal respiratory unit (TRU) types and rarely in non‐TRU types. To elucidate the molecular characteristics of the major subtypes of non‐TRU‐type adenocarcinomas, we analyzed 19 lung adenocarcinoma cell lines (11 TRU types and 8 non‐TRU types). A characteristic of non‐TRU‐type cell lines was...
