Prognostic impact of the Controlling Nutritional Status score in patients with non-small cell lung cancer treated with pembrolizumab.
Conclusions: The CONUT score has potential application as a predictor of the therapeutic effect and the prognosis of NSCLC patients treated with pembrolizumab. Our findings suggest that in addition to the programmed cell death ligand 1 expression level, the CONUT may also be a useful indicator for selecting NSCLC patients who may benefit from ICI treatment. Recommendations for lung cancer screening in Southern Africa.
Authors: Koegelenberg CFN, Dorfman S, Schewitz I, Richards GA, Maasdorp S, Smith C, Dheda K, South African Thoracic Society Abstract Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in southern Africa. Early trials of chest radiograph-based screening in males at high risk for lung cancer found no mortality benefit of a radiograph alone, or a radiograph plus sputum cytology screening strategy. Large prospective studies, including the National Lung Screening Trial, have shown...

Real world experience on treatment, outcome and toxicity of crizotinib in patients with anaplastic lymphoma kinase positive advanced non-small cell lung cancer.
Conclusions: This retrospective analysis of a real-world experience confirms the therapeutic benefit of crizotinib in advanced ALK-positive NSCLC. Our data showed crizotinib is tolerable and effective, comparable with literature report. Occasional serious cardiac toxicity requires attention. Intracavitary chemotherapy with epidermal growth factor receptor-tyrosine kinase inhibitor (EGFR-TKI) is not superior to TKI monotherapy in controlling malignant pleural effusion recurrence in EGFR-mutated lung cancer patients.
Conclusions: Intrapleural chemotherapy with TKI did not improve the efficacy of controlling MPEs in patients with EGFR-mutated NSCLC, but may increase adverse events, which are typical side effects of chemotherapy. We could treat these patients with TKI drugs alone combined with pleural effusion drainage. PMID: 31656643 [PubMed] (Source: Journal of Thoracic Disease)
