Abstract This is the first study to demonstrate vestibular deficit in patients with vestibular schwannoma who do not have clinical symptoms of imbalance. Balance can have significant impact on patient’s quality of life, and vHIT can potentially identify those at risk of balance problems. vHIT is the only validated test for six‐canal vestibular function. vHIT is quick and easily tolerated and can be useful in helping patients understand their balance symptoms. The posterior semi‐circular canal...
Abstract Objectives The United States has a heterogenous health insurance landscape for patients <65 years. We sought to characterize the impact of primary payer on overall survival (OS) in insured patients younger than 65 with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) treated with definitive radiotherapy. Design/Study/Participants The National Cancer Data Base was queried for patients <65 diagnosed from 2004‐2014 undergoing definitive radiotherapy ± chemotherapy for cancers of...
Abstract Background We evaluated the prognostic value of lymph node ratio (LNR) in patients with advanced laryngeal and hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma. Study Design: Retrospective chart review. Methods Between 1994 and 2018, 79 patients underwent total laryngopharyngectomy and adjuvant therapy. LNR was determined and statistically compared to patients’ overall survival (OS), disease‐specific survival (DSS), disease‐free survival (DFS), locoregional and distant failure. Results...
Abstract A Modified Cormack‐Lehane score of 2b or 3 has a predicted endoscopic stapling failure rate of 81% and so previous anaesthetic records may be useful in surgical planning. Small pouch size is not a predictor for failure when other factors are favourable, and endoscopic surgery should not be ruled out on this basis. Patients with a high BMI have a higher chance of pouch recurrence.

Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, Ahead of Print. Given the increasing incidence of human papilloma virus (HPV)–positive head and neck cancers (HNCs), discussion of this oncologic outcome should be incorporated into HPV vaccine counseling practices. Yet, preliminary evidence shows that knowledge of the association between HPV and HNC is lacking among most medical trainees. To better characterize this deficit, we nationally assessed knowledge of HPV’s association with HNC among medical students...

This review of different pulpotomy dressing agents for pulpotomy treatment in immature permanent teeth. While the review suggested that the various agents tested had similar success rates the findings should be viewed cautiously as all the studies were at high risk of bias.
