RelB Deficiency in Dendritic Cells Protects from Autoimmune Inflammation Due to Spontaneous Accumulation of Tissue T Regulatory Cells.
In this study, we provide evidence that knockout of the relB gene in dendritic cells (DCs) of C57BL/6 mice results in a spontaneous and systemic accumulation of Foxp3+ T regulatory T cells (Tregs) partially at the expense of microbiota-reactive Tregs. Deletion of nfkb2 does not fully recapitulate this phenotype, indicating that alternative NF-κB activation via the RelB/p52 complex is not solely responsible for Treg accumulation. Deletion of RelB in DCs further results in an impaired oral tolerance...

Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor- δ Acts within Peripheral Myeloid Cells to Limit Th Cell Priming during Experimental Autoimmune Encephalomyelitis.
In this study, we studied the specific involvement of PPAR-δ in myeloid cells during EAE using mice that had Cre-mediated excision of floxed Ppard driven by the lysozyme M (LysM) promoter (LysM Cre :Ppard fl/fl). We observed that LysM Cre :Ppard fl/fl mice were more susceptible to EAE and developed a more severe course of this disease compared with Ppard fl/fl controls. The more severe EAE in LysM Cre :Ppard fl/fl mice was associated with an increased accumulation of pathogenic CD4+ T cells in the...

Activation-Induced Cell Death of Mucosal-Associated Invariant T Cells Is Amplified by OX40 in Type 2 Diabetic Patients.
In this study, we demonstrate that the costimulatory TNF superfamily receptor OX40 was highly expressed in MAIT cells of patients with T2D. Compared with OX40-negative MAIT cells, OX40-positive MAIT cells showed a high activation and a memory phenotype. Surprisingly, OX40 expression was negatively correlated with the frequency of MAIT cells in the peripheral blood of T2D patients. Increased cleaved caspase-3 levels were observed in OX40+-expressing MAIT cells in T2D patients. In vitro, activated...

Topical Adjuvant Application during Subcutaneous Vaccination Promotes Resident Memory T Cell Generation.
In this study, we evaluated the use of topical CpG oligodeoxynucleotide (ODN) as adjuvant to generate skin TRM in mice. Topical or s.c. CpG ODN adjuvant administration at the time of a s.c. Ag injection led to an accumulation of CD103- CD8 T cells in the epidermis. However, only mice with CpG ODN administered topically had significant numbers of CD103+ Ag-specific CD8 T cells persisting in the local epidermal skin, enhanced circulating memory cells in the blood, and showed protection from intradermal...

Variation near MTNR1A associates with early development and interacts with seasons
Summary Melatonin is a circadian regulatory hormone with neuroprotective properties. We have previously demonstrated the association of the genetic variant rs12506228 near the melatonin receptor 1A gene (MTNR1A) with intolerance to shift‐work. Furthermore, this variant has been connected to Alzheimer's disease. Because of the previously suggested role of melatonin signalling in foetal neurocognitive and sleep development, we studied here the association of rs12506228 with early development. The...

Sensitivity, Specificity, and Reproducibility of the Brazilian Portuguese Version of the Reflux Symptom Index
The diagnosis of laryngopharyngeal reflux is controversial. There is currently no gold standard, so it relies mainly on suspicious clinical symptoms and videolaryngoscopic findings. Unfortunately these signs and symptoms are common to other causes of chronic laryngitis. Scoring systems have been proposed to reduce subjectivity in clinical diagnosis. The most widely used and accepted is the Reflux Symptom Index, which has already been translated into over 10 other languages. (Source: Journal of Voice)

Somatosensory functional MRI tractography for individualized targeting of deep brain stimulation in patients with chronic pain after brachial plexus injury
Abstract Background The optimal targets for deep brain stimulation (DBS) in patients with refractory chronic pain are not clearly defined. We applied sensory functional MRI (fMRI)- and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI)-based DBS in chronic pain patients into 3 different targets to ascertain the most beneficial individual stimulation site. Methods Three patients...

Types of Errors Made During Breast Augmentation with Polyurethane Implants: A Systematic Review
Abstract Background Implementation of polyurethane-covered (PU) implants into practice requires a reassessment of the experience and a learning curve period. Occasional publications describe a few difficulties in this regard. However, there are no publications covering the spectrum of errors. The absence of definite information and contradictory findings makes the learning curve longer leading to many unsatisfactory results. ...

The effects of photodynamic therapy on leukemia cells mediated by KillerRed, a genetically encoded fluorescent protein photosensitizer
Abstract Background Leukemia is a cancer of blood and bone marrow cells, causing about 300,000 deaths worldwide. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a promising alternative for the treatment of malignant tumors. KillerRed is a genetically encoded red fluorescent protein photosensitizer (PS). In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of KillerRed-mediated PDT on chronic myelogenous leukemia K562 cells, acute monocytic leukemia...
