Adverse reactions to iodinated contrast media: safety of a study protocol that includes fast full‐dose parenteral challenge‐tests searching for an alternative contrast media
Abstract Iodinated contrast media (ICM) were introduced into clinical practice to improve both diagnostic imaging and therapeutic procedures. Current ICM formulations are based on tri‐iodobenzoic acid ring. Incidence of adverse reactions (AR) to ICM was 15% in 1975, but nowadays it has been reduced to 3% by using low‐osmolarity and non‐ionic ICM.

Can dietary strategies in early life prevent childhood food allergy? A report from two iFAAM workshops
Abstract Food allergy affects a small but significant number of children and adults. Food allergy is responsible for considerable morbidity and is the commonest cause of anaphylaxis in children. One of the aims of the European Union funded “Integrated Approaches to Food Allergen and Allergy Risk Management” (iFAAM) project was to improve our understanding of the best way to prevent the development of food allergy. Groups within the project worked on integrating the current prevention evidence base...

Identifying and managing patients at risk of severe allergic reactions to food: report from two iFAAM workshops
Abstract Food allergy affects a small but important number of children and adults. Much of the morbidity associated with food allergy is driven by the fear of a severe reaction, and fatalities continue to occur. Foods are the commonest cause of anaphylaxis. One of the aims of the European Union funded Integrated Approaches to Food Allergen and Allergy Risk Management (iFAAM) project was to improve the identification and management of children and adults at risk of experiencing a severe reaction....

Insomnia symptoms and asthma control – interrelations and importance of comorbidities
Abstract Background Insomnia symptoms are common with asthma. The aim of the study was to analyze the associations between insomnia symptoms and asthma control, asthma severity, and asthma‐related comorbidity in a community‐based population. Methods Adults (n=23,875, ages 18‐45) from the community‐based LifeGene study answered a questionnaire on insomnia symptoms, airway symptoms, asthma diagnosis, asthma medication, and asthma‐related comorbidities (chronic rhinosinusitis, gastro‐esophageal...

Robotic surgery of the anterior skull base
Background Significant advances have been made in transoral robotic surgery (TORS), yet its application in anterior skull‐base surgery has yet to be defined. This work explores the history of endoscopic sinus and anterior skull‐base surgery, and its advantages and disadvantages. The development of robotic surgery is then discussed as well as the advantages and disadvantages of TORS as it relates to the anterior skull base. The current applications for robotic surgery to the anterior skull base are...

IFN-{gamma}-Dependent Reduction of Erythrocyte Life Span Leads to Anemia during Mycobacterial Infection [INFECTIOUS DISEASE AND HOST RESPONSE]
Key PointsThe mechanism of anemia in infection is unknown and differs according to infectious agent. M. avium infection causes reticulocytosis and enhanced liver erythrophagocytosis. IFN- is necessary for M. avium–induced anemia, but sensing by macrophages is not.

IL-4 and IL-17A Cooperatively Promote Hydrogen Peroxide Production, Oxidative DNA Damage, and Upregulation of Dual Oxidase 2 in Human Colon and Pancreatic Cancer Cells [INNATE IMMUNITY AND INFLAMMATION]
Key PointsDUOX2 mRNA expression is associated with poor prognosis in pancreatic cancer. IL-4 and IL-17A synergize to upregulate DUOX2 in pancreatic and colon cancer lines. DUOX2 upregulation increases the production of H2O2 and DNA damage.

Differential Effect of Mucosal NKp44+ Innate Lymphoid Cells and {Delta}{gamma} Cells on Simian Immunodeficiency Virus Infection Outcome in Rhesus Macaques [INFECTIOUS DISEASE AND HOST RESPONSE]
Key PointsNKp44+ ILCs not only diminish SIV acquisition risk but also affect viremia control. NKp44+ and DN cells impact viremia control and disease course, respectively. Rectal SIV gp120-specific Ab-mediated ADCC is correlated with rectal CD16+NKp44+ ILCs.

Platelets in Inflammation and Resolution [BRIEF REVIEWS]
Platelets have long been known for their role in hemostasis. In this, platelet adhesion and activation leads to the formation of a firm thrombus and thus the sealing of a damaged blood vessel. More recently, inflammatory modes of function have been attributed to these non–nuclei-containing cellular fragments. Interaction with leukocytes, secretion of proinflammatory mediators, and migratory behavior are some of the recent discoveries. Nonetheless, platelets also have anti-inflammatory potential by...
